May Exports Up 12.42 Percent: BPS

24 June 2019 14:42 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia’s exports throughout May of this year increased by 12.42 to USD 14.74 billion compared to April.

“We can see that the growing exports from April to May happened because of the increased exports of oil and gas products (migas) and non-migas products,” said Suhariyanto in a press conference at the BPS headquarters on Monday, June 24.

The BPS reports also revealed oil and gas exports in May 2019 climbed by 50.19 percent (USD1.11 billion) compared to April (USD0.74 billion), while the value of non-oil and gas exports grew 10.16 percent from USD13.63 billion from the previous month's USD12.37 billion.

However, Suhariyanto said the year-on-year exports of migas and non-migas compared to May 2018 saw a deficit of 8.99 percent.

He further explained that the four export sectors had continued to grow on a monthly basis with the mining industry as the only business sector that experienced a drop of 1.76 percent following the dropping prices of commodities.

“Prices of commodities are still fluctuating and there are other elements hindering them, including internal issues on how to boost exports,” said Suhariyanto.
